どっから来た名前？ Where do these names come from?
誰がそんな名前を付けたのか知らないが、中国のレストランで料理の名前が「日本豆腐」ってゆうのを見つけました。他の店にもあるかどうか知らないが、日本人の私が初めて聞いた「日本豆腐」。注文してみましたが、玉子豆腐みたいなのを椎茸と白菜と一緒に炒めた料理でした。
これを中国ではそう呼ぶのかと感心していましたが、よく考えると他の国でもどっからそんな名前が付いたのか分からない食べ物が結構ある事を思い出しました。
例えば「スイスロール」。スイスに住んでいた事のある人にスイスロールをスイスで見た事があるか聞いてみましたが、ないとの事。「ベルギーワッフル」も確かNYだったかどっかベルギーじゃない国で生まれたのを聞いた事があります。
これらの名前の由来を知ってたら、他に不思議な名前を知ってたら是非教えて下さい。
I don’t know who came up with the name, but I found a Chinese dish called “Japanese tofu” at a restaurant here. I’m not sure if any other restaurants have it here, but it was the first time for me to hear of this dish. We ordered it, and found it to be a kind of egg tofu mixed with mushroom and Chinese cabbage.
I’m curious as to why it’s called that in China, and I found many other foods which make me wonder why they are called what they are called.
For example there is the “Swiss roll”. I asked a guy who has been to Switzerland if he had ever seen it there, but his answer was “No”. I’ve heard that “Belgium waffle” also isn’t from Belgium but from New York or somewhere around there.

コメントにも書きましたが、上記で質問した「日本豆腐」、スーパーで発見しました！「玉子」の表記があったので、やはり玉子豆腐でした。ビーガンの方々、ご用心！
Regarding the “Japanese tofu”, which I wrote about before, I found it at the supermarket! Its name is written with a character which means “Egg” in Japanese, so it is a kind of tofu, which is made from eggs. Vegans beware!
